Militants today (Feb 24, 2005) stormed the divisional headquarter of the Jammu and Kashmir Government in Srinagar, a senior police official said.
DIG, Srinagar, H K Lohia said that two militants were believed to have sneaked into the complex, which houses several Government offices, including those of the divisional commissioner, deputy commissioner and other revenue officials.
The entire complex, which is adjacent to several Government installations, including the Legislative Assembly and old secretariat, has been cordoned off by police and other paramilitary forces, official sources said.
They said no casualties have been reported so far.
Around 200 employees of the State Government are trapped inside the complex and additional reinforcements have been called in to evacuate them, official sources said.
So far one woman and another injured person have been rescued from inside the building, they said.
