'BJP likely to move privilege motion against PM' Saturday, February 26 2005 17:48 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
New Delhi:
BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) is likely to table a Privilege motion against Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for alleged "leak" of the Union Budget through his reply to UPA (United Progressive Alliance) Chairperson Sonia Gandhi on better amenities to the weaker sections in the coming budget.
Party sources today (Feb 26, 2005) said a decision on such a cause would be taken in the next few days.
Meanwhile, taking exception to the reply by the Prime Minister, former Finance Minister Yashwant Sinha said, "Our only objection is that what is going to be in the Budget has been told to Sonia Gandhi and mentioning even part of the Budget is wrong."
Asked repeatedly whether the party would demand the resignation of the Prime Minister on this issue, he said, "We will raise the issue regarding the Prime Minister's reply to the letter by the Congress President before the Finance Minister presents the budget and seek a clarification from him."
Sinha said the NDA (National Democratic Alliance) leaders would be meeting on Monday (Feb 28, 2005) morning ahead of the Budget presentation and chalk out the strategy for the day.
"There is a practice in Parliament that anything in Budget cannot be made public before being presented in the House. What has happened is a clear case of impropriety," Sinha said.
