Tricolour issue blown out of proportions: Narain Saturday, February 26 2005 16:38 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Moscow:
The Fastest Indian on Wheels Narain Karthikeyan today (Feb 26, 2005) made known his displeasure over the Government's instruction that the National Flag may not be displayed by sportsmen.
"I think its blown out of proportions. All countries display their country's colours in this or that form," Narain said during the official launch of the Jordan Toyota's new car EJ15 in Moscow.
On his first visit to Moscow, Narain was drenched in flashlight at the historic Red Square in minus 10-degree chill.
The Russian media was so excited to see the first Indian Formula one (F-1) driver that Narain's teammate at Jordan, Tiego Monteiro, was almost forgotten.
Narain, 28, said India would be ready to host a Grand Prix of the elite racing event within next two-three years.
"It makes me and my country proud. This is a high profile sport. I feel the support of the Indian people and media.
"Interest in F-1 is going up in India. In two-three years we must have it in India, it would be great to link it with the high-technology and IT Indians are emerging as the leaders," he said at a packed conference.
"I think Russia, like my home country, is a nation which would very much like to host race in the future Grand Prix Calendar. There are many similarities between us although the climate is certainly not one of them!"
