UPA Govt will collapse if it deviates from CMP: CPM
Saturday, February 26 2005 15:39 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Jabalpur: Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPM) today (Feb 26, 2005) said that the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government at the Centre would collapse if it deviates from the 'Common Minimum Programme' (CMP).

Addressing a gathering before a three-day 11th convention of Madhya Pradesh CPM, beginning tonight, CPM Politburo member Sitaram Yechuri said that the Government would complete its full-term if CMP is implemented in toto for the socio-economic development of the society's lower strata.

He said that the CPM, which had 61 members in Parliament, would support the Government from outside and "if it finds that the Government to be deviating from the CMP, it will withdraw its support".

"CPM is fully dedicated to improve the socio-economic plight of the tillers of the soil and other labour class so that they may live in the society with dignity and reap the fruits of their labour," Yechuri added.

The party stood firmly for the unity and integrity of the nation and it was against communal and other sectarian forces, which had sown the seeds of nation's disintegration, he said. "The foreign money to be invested in our industries and privatisation of profit earning public sector industries would be opposed by the party," he said. It was the Government's duty to make proper investment in education, health, employment and agriculture for the country's progress, the CPM leader said.

"The party will resort to agitations if the Government adopts measures which are detrimental to the poor and blindly supports the imperialist policies. Similarly no privatisation of Defence and other profit earning industries should be done," he added.
