The Congress will ask the newly elected party MLAs in Haryana to evolve a consensus on the Chief Minister, a senior party leader today (Feb 27, 2005) said as three aspirants made it clear that it was for Sonia Gandhi to choose the new leader.
"We will ask legislators to meet and decide on who will be the Chief Minister and there is no doubt on that," Congress General Secretary Ashok Gehlot told reporters as trends from counting indicated that the party was headed for a landslide victory in the State.
The consensus would be based on the inputs from the high command, he said.
On trends in Bihar and Jharkhand, he said it was too early to conclude but it is expected that in Jharkhand a secular Government would emerge with a definitive role of his party.
