Chandigarh:
Riding on the crest of an anti-incumbency wave, Congress today (Feb 27, 2005) headed for a two-thirds majority in Haryana with the party bagging 11 Assembly seats and leading in 50 others.
The ruling Indian National Lok Dal (INLD), which has so far won three seats, faced a severe drubbing as counting of votes for the 90-member Assembly progressed.
Of the 15 results available, Bahujan Samaj Party had emerged victorious in one.
The INLD was ahead in 13 constituencies. Its president and Chief Minister Om Parkash Chautala romped home from Rori constituency by a margin of 26,578 votes.
But Chautala, the only non-Congress Chief Minister to complete a five-year term, was trailing in Narwana.
Prominent winners for the Congress included three-time Chief Minister Bhajan Lal from Adampur and former Minister Anand Singh Dangi.
