Bhajan Lal stakes claim for CM's post in Haryana

Chandigarh: Haryana Congress president Bhajan Lal today (Feb 27, 2005) staked his claim for the Chief Ministership in the State.

"I am a claimant for the Chief Minister's post," Bhajan Lal said after he was declared elected from Adampur constituency in Hissar district by a record margin of 71,080 votes.

When asked, he said a meeting of the newly elected legislators of the party would be held soon after holding discussions with the party high command.

Bhajan Lal, who has ruled the State thrice, said that he was going to Delhi for holding discussions with the Central party leaders.

He said that his party's priority would be to maintain peace, amity and over all development of the State.

"The landslide victory of the Congress in the Assembly polls is an endorsement of the policies and programmes of the Congress under the leadership of Sonia Gandhi," he said.
