Laloo to seek support from like-minded parties Sunday, February 27 2005 10:28 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Patna:
Dismissing reports that the poll outcomes would have adverse effect on the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) at the Centre, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Laloo Prasad today (Feb 27, 2005) said that he would take support from like-minded parties and independent MLAs to form Government in the event of his party falling short of majority.
"I will not hesitate in taking support from our secular allies like the Congress, CPI (Communist Party of India) and CPM (Communist Party of India- Marxist) to form the RJD Government in Bihar," Prasad said, without mentioning the name of the Lok Janshankti Party (LJP) of Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertiliser Ramvilas Paswan, as counting was taken up in all the 243 Assembly constituencies in the State.
Laloo's comment came when media men approached him seeking to know whether he would seek support from the LJP in Government formation in the event of the RJD falling short of majority.
He, however, expressed confidence about his party's victory for renewal of the contract that the Rabri Devi Ministry had with the people for another five-year term.
Asked whether the poll outcomes in Bihar would in any way have impact on the UPA at the Centre, the RJD leader said, "There will be no impact on the UPA as it is strong and solid."
Asked as to whether he would back a Congress Chief Minister if the RJD failed to secure the majority on its own, Prasad said, "All such talks are absurd at this moment."
