Chandigarh: The Congress Legislature Party (CLP) in Haryana, where the party stormed back to power in Assembly polls, was on Tuesday (March 1, 2005) understood to have authorised AICC (All India Congress Committee) president Sonia Gandhi to select a new Chief Minister.

Party sources said a resolution empowering Sonia to choose the leader had been adopted at a meeting of the CLP.

AICC observers for Haryana, Union Minister P M Sayeed and general secretaries Ashok Gehlot and Janardana Diwedi, held confabulations with each of the newly elected MLAs to know his or her views on the choice of the person for the top post.

Each MLA was being taken into confidence in a one-to-one meeting, the sources said.
