Jharkhand issue rocks Parliament; RS adjourned Wednesday, March 2 2005 12:18 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
New Delhi:
Rajya Sabha was adjourned for the day today (Mar 2, 2005) amidst slogan shouting by Opposition members in protest against what they termed as "delaying tactics" by the Jharkhand Governor in inviting the NDA (National Democratic Alliance) to form Government in the State.
As soon as the House met for the day, agitated NDA members sought to raise the issue leading to vociferous objections from ruling benches, which insisted that the Question Hour be taken up first without any disruption.
After nearly 20 minutes of uproar, BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) and other NDA members trooped into the well of the House and continued to raise slogans against the UPA (United Progressive Alliance) and Congress for developments in Jharkhand.
As Chairman Bhairon Singh Shekhawat's repeated pleas to Opposition members to restore peace in the House went unheeded, he adjourned the House for the day, barely 30 minutes after it assembled.
Lok Sabha also witnessed uproarious scenes by BJP-led NDA members protesting against what they termed as "misuse" of Governor's office in Jharkhand, forcing adjournment of the House for 20 minutes.
Angry Opposition members stormed the well shouting slogans against Governor Syed Sibtey Razi and Congress president Sonia Gandhi after Leader of the Opposition L K
Advani made a scathing attack on the "role" being played by the Raj Bhawan, which he alleged, was "murdering democracy".
The Opposition members continued raising slogans like "politics from Raj Bhawan will not be allowed" and "dictatorship of 10 Janpath (Sonia Gandhi's residence) will not be allowed," for almost 25 minutes before Speaker Somnath Chatterjee adjourned the House.
