Professor C N R Rao, an outstanding scientist in the field of material chemistry, has been selected for the first India Science Award for the year 2004.
The Award was announced by the Minister of State for Science and Technology Kapil Sibal during the National Science Day celebrations held recently, an official release said in New Delhi last night (Mar 2, 2005).
Rao has been selected for the prestigious award for his outstanding and sustained contributions and discoveries in solid state and material chemistry and significant contributions to this subject for the past four decades, it said.
The Award, instituted by the former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee during India Science Congress in January 2003, is the highest recognition in the field of science in India.
