CPI opposes Razi, but says BJP is more dangerous
Friday, March 4 2005 15:00 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

New Delhi: The Communist Party of India (CPI) today (Mar 4, 2005) opposed Jharkhand Governor Syed Sibtey Razi's decision to install Shibu Soren Government in the State without knowing "arithmetics" but at the same time flayed the BJP for stalling proceedings in Parliament.

"While we do not support the move of the Governor to install a Government in Jharkhand so hurriedly without objective assessment of the arithmetics, the role of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Parliament is more dangerous," senior party leaders Gurudas Dasgupta and Ajay Chakraborty said.

Conceding that the Opposition has a grievance, they said that the way Parliament had been paralysed amounted to an attempt to "demolish" the highest forum of democracy.

"While they are complaining about the murder of democracy in Jharkhand, in Delhi they are destroying democracy," they said adding from the very first session of Parliament, the BJP was "dictating the House, disregarding the Speaker and denying members opportunities to raise important issues of public importance".

During the last session, the vote of thanks to the President's address was passed without discussion and budget was adopted without any deliberations because of such disruptions, they said in a statement.

The Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPM) had yesterday (Mar 3, 2005) questioned the Governor's action saying, "even while not accepting the claim of the BJP-led alliance about the majority it has mustered in Jharkhand, it must be pointed out that the hasty manner in which the Governor has gone about ascertaining the support for the two combinations is controversial."
