Jammu and Kashmir has sought Rs 1500 crore central assistance for relief and rehabilitation of avalanche affected families and restoration of essential services like power, public health, engineering, irrigation, health, and rebuilding of public infrastructure in the areas worst hit.
Of this, Rs 500 crore have been sought for immediate assistance to the State, an official spokesman said in Jammu last night (Mar 03, 2005).
The proposal was finalised mutually by the Central team in Jammu and State high-level officers after having detailed account of the losses and damages and discussing the requirements sector-wise and area-wise, the spokesman said.
After threadbare discussions held to review the sector-wise demands and projections, it was agreed upon to project a demand of Rs 500 crore as immediate requirement to meet relief and restoration measures and Rs 1000 crore as special package for rebuilding the damaged infrastructure and to provide succour to the affected people by way of generating incentive as inputs to farming committee whose crops and orchards suffered damages.
