Opposition paralysed Lok Sabha fourth day in a row Friday, March 4 2005 12:29 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
New Delhi:
Keeping up its pressure, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led Opposition today (Mar 4, 2005) paralysed proceedings in Lok Sabha demanding removal of Governors of Jharkhand and Goa, forcing its adjournment for the fourth consecutive day.
Soon after the House assembled, leader of the Opposition L K Advani demanded immediate recall of Governors of the two States.
He said 41 MLAs from Jharkhand had yesterday (Mar 3, 2005) met President A P J Abdul Kalam and told him that the people's verdict in the State had been ignored.
Thereafter, the NDA members stormed the well raising slogans against the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government. They demanded removal of the two Governors.
Speaker Somnath Chatterjee's repeated pleas to maintain order went unheeded.
"This is a very sad day. I will not allow liquidation of democracy. I am compelled to adjourn the House," a visibly agitated Speaker said.
