Knopfler says he is a guitar teacher's nightmare Saturday, March 5 2005 11:48 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Mumbai:
Leading guitarist and singer Mark Knopfler last night (Mar 4, 2005) said that he would have been every good guitar teacher's nightmare, as his advice on using the instrument would not be recommended by purists.
Speaking to reporters Mark, who will be performing in Mumbai today (Mar 5, 2005) and Bangalore on March 7, said that he used a guitar just to write a song but his advice on using a guitar would not be one that was recommended by any good conventional teacher of the instrument.
Speaking about his debut album "The Sultan of Swing" that broke the established guitar hero mould with its clean, country influence stratocaster licks way back in 1978, Mark said he had been happy over the success of the album.
"I recommend success for any one. A journalist once told me that my debut album worked at different levels," Mark, who is known for his ability to coax the sweetest tone from a range of vintage guitar said in Mumbai.
On his album "Shangrila", he said, "it (Shangrila) could mean different things to different people. To me it means that I must enjoy the present."
"The song taught me that one must enjoy now because the same thing won't happen again," the banned leader of the famous group "Dire straits" said.
Recounting his famous accident in 2003 while on the way to rehearsals in London, he said, "The accident taught me that I must enjoy the present because things can change pretty quickly. It helped me to realise to get most of the present."
