Surat:
Janata Dal-United JD-U MLA from Gujarat, Chotubhai Vasava, against whom a court had issued non-bailable warrants was arrested today (Mar 6, 2005) morning from Bharuch district, in connection with three murder cases, police said in Surat.
Vasava, was absconding for quite some time now and had nearly 22 cases, including three of murder, pending against him, Bharuch district police said.
The controversial MLA, representing Valva-Jagadhiya constituency, was allegedly involved in the murder of a local Congress party leader Raj Pardi and also of his own nephew, Dinesh Vasava, also a Congress leader, police added.
The MLA's role in politics also came under cloud during the 2004 Lok Sabha polls, when he did not personally go to file his nominations and instead sent a party worker, inviting much criticism from rival politicians.
Bharuch police would produce him in a local court later in the day to seek remand for detail interrogation into the various cases pending against Vasava, officials added.
