Mumbai: Legendary pop star Mark Knopfler yesterday (Mar 5, 2005) swung the crowd as he belted out some of his most popular numbers at a musical show held Mumbai last evening.

The sultan of music drew loud applauses when he belted out numbers, including the popular 'Walk of Life', 'Romeo and Juliet' from his repertoire.

As the crowds clapped and cheered to the tunes of the guitar, Knopfler, dressed in a casual white shirt and blue denim trousers, mesmerised the crowds with his legendary skills.

Besides the younger generation, the crowd also included the older lot who had grown up with Knopfler's 'Sultan of the Swing', 'Money for nothing', 'Brothers in Arms' and 'Water of Love'.

The crowd also included a turn out of celebrities from the world of business, art and culture as well.

The show was marked with a huge range of guitars from Knopfler's collection.

The artist once known as the silent man of the rock and roll, due to his reticent ways, is on his maiden visit to India and would perform in Bangalore on March 7.

Knopfler, the leader of the popular band Dire Straits, went on to hit the popularity charts with his numbers. He later began a solo career with the Golden heart. A former teacher and journalist, Knopfler also scored music for various films and has played as a guest guitarist for various artists.
