Srinagar-Jammu highway remains closed for 2nd day
Monday, March 7 2005 14:13 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Srinagar: The Srinagar-Jammu National Highway (NH) remained closed for the second consecutive day today (Mar 7, 2005) following massive landslides along the arterial road, official sources said today.

No vehicle from Srinagar and Jammu was allowed to move on the 300 km-long highway, which is the only surface link between Kashmir valley and the rest of the country.

The highway was partially re-opened yesterday (Mar 6, 2005) after the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) cleared the road and around 372 vehicles stranded on the road were allowed to move towards Srinagar.

However, massive landslides at Sumroli again blocked the highway late in the afternoon forcing its closure, the sources said adding that the men and machines of BRO were engaged in clearing the roads.
