Second round of talks with naxals 'historic need'
Monday, March 7 2005 14:35 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Vijayawada: There was every hope that the second round of talks between Maoist naxalites and the Andhra Pradesh Government would be held again, the Government's nominee for the parleys T Purshotam Rao said in Vijayawada.

"The Government intended to discuss socio-economic issues, land distribution, women's empowerment, employment, education, globalisation, creation of small States, problems of SC/STs with the naxalites and also with every responsible person in the society", he said.

The second round of talks with naxals was a "historic need" to bring the ultras into the mainstream of society, Rao, who is also a member of the Government's surplus land distribution committee, said.

The first round of talks with naxals was held in October last year (2004).
