Kanchi case: Accused turned approver gives statement

Chennai: Ravi Subramaniam, an accused in the Radhakrishnan Assault Case who had expressed his willingness to turn approver in the case, today (March 7, 2005) gave a statement under section 164 CrPC before a metropolitan magistrate, in Chennai.

The VIth Metropolitan Magistrate M Sambasivam recorded Subramaniam's statement in-camera.

The accused, who was with the magistrate for about an hour, was brought from the sub-jail at Kancheepuram, where he is lodged, under heavy police escort.

The case relates to the September 20, 2002 attack on a former Kanchi Mutt associate Radhakrishnan, his wife and an attendant at his residence in the city by two persons. Kanchi Seer Jayendra Saraswathi is an accused in the case.
