BJP renews appeal to Paswan to form anti-RJD Govt Tuesday, March 8 2005 14:50 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Patna:
Renewing its appeal to the LJP (Lok Janshakti Party), the BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) today (March 8, 2005) asked LJP president Ram Vilas Paswan to come out of the UPA (United Progressive Alliance) for forming an anti-RJD (Rashtriya Janata Dal) Government in Bihar and stop creating an "arithmetic of impossibility."
"Paswanji should stop creating this arithmetic of impossibility (reaching the magic figure of 122 in 243-member Bihar assembly sans RJD and BJP). The arithmetic is very clear that any Government could be formed only with either RJD or NDA being its nucleus. There is no third option.
The LJP chief should come out of the UPA to pave way for an anti-RJD Government in Bihar," BJP general secretary Arun Jaitley told reporters.
Flanked by BJP vice-president Sushil Kumar Modi, State party president Gopal Narayan Singh, former Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad and its legislature party leader in the outgoing Assembly Ashwani Choubey, Jaitley said BJP was "flexible to formation of an anti-RJD Government."
He, however, did not clarify what he meant by being "flexible".
Asked if the NDA was ready to offer Chief Ministerial post to LJP chief Ram Vilas Paswan or stick to the name of senior JDU (Janata Dal United) leader Nitish Kumar for the top job, Jaitley said, "First Paswan should come out of UPA and then we will sort out these issues."
He said the "stubbornness of Paswan "in not leaving the Union Ministry and initiating the process of Government formation with the NDA, had resulted in imposition of President's Rule in the State and reminded Paswan that all those who had won on anti-RJD plank owned the responsibility of forming an anti-RJD Ministry.
