'93 blasts: Police expects more recovery of arms Tuesday, March 8 2005 16:54 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Ahmedabad:
Police are expecting to make more recovery of arms based on the interrogation of Dawood Ibrahim aide Umarmiyan Bukhari, who is in Gujarat Police custody since December in connection with the arms that had landed off the coast of Porbandar in the early 90's along with a Rapid Detonating Explosive (RDX) that was used in the 1993 Mumbai blasts.
Porbandar police had last week seized a Mauser pistol and several cartridges from two persons from the coastal town of Veraval. It also seized an AK-47 rifle from a farmhouse in Jamnagar in January based on Bukhari's interrogation.
"We expect more recovery of arms, as less then three per cent has been recovered from the consignment he received. Bukhari will also soon be subjected to lie detector and Brain fingerprinting tests at the Directorate of Forensic Sciences, to extract details about these consignments and their current whereabouts", a senior official of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed to grill Bukhari said.
The Mauser pistol was seized last week from an accomplice of Bukhari after his interrogation revealed that he had instructed two persons to destroy the arms by using gas cutters fearing police crackdown.
