Three held in UK; accused of funding terrorism Tuesday, March 8 2005 12:11 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
London:
Three persons, including one accused of having led a terrorist outfit in Jammu and Kashmir, have been charged here with conspiring to provide money to fund terrorism, police said.
Mohammed Ajmal Khan, 30, Palvinder Singh, 29 and Farzana Khan, 41, were arrested last Tuesday (Mar 1, 2005) in the Midlands city of Coventry, they said.
They were charged with conspiring to provide funds and other property for use in acts of terrorism between January 29, 2003 and March 1 this year (2005).
Ajmal Khan is also accused of having led a "terrorist" organisation during the same period in Jammu and Kashmir and of belonging to the militant group Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT).
Declining further details, the Metropolitan Police said the terrorism the three allegedly funded was not intended to occur in Britain or the United States. A police spokeswoman, however, later indicated that Khan's group was linked to operations in the Indian subcontinent.
The three accused were scheduled to appear before the Bow Street Magistrates' Court in London.
