Series of bomb blasts in Assam; 1 killed, 5 injured Wednesday, March 9 2005 22:22 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

One bomb expert was killed and five others, including two policemen, were injured in a series of eight bomb blasts and grenade attacks in Assam today (Mar 9, 2005).
In an attempt to defuse a bomb found at a place under Abhayapuri police station in Bongaigon district, one bomb expert was killed when the time device exploded, police said.
The Abhayapuri police station officer-in-charge who was accompanying the bomb expert was also injured.
In a grenade attack, three persons, including a police constable were injured, when ULFA (United Liberation Front of Assam) ultras hurled a grenade at the residence of a police officer at Sonapur.
At Fancy Bazaar, the main commercial centre of the northeast, one person was injured when a bomb exploded.
Another blast damaged a BSNL building in Nagaon while another bomb went off at Borhat area in Sibsagar district. But there were no reports of casualty.
There were blasts near the Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi airport and the Guwahati Neurological Centre in the city but none were hurt.
Earlier, a bomb explosion in Dhubri town damaged two electric transformers.
