Goa Cong MLAs meet Sonia Gandhi, claim majority Wednesday, March 9 2005 11:49 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
New Delhi:
All the Congress MLAs from Goa led by former Chief Minister Pratapsinh Rane today (Mar, 2005) met All India Congress Committee (AICC) chief Sonia Gandhi in New Delhi and claimed majority in the State Assembly, which has been kept under suspended animation after imposition of President's Rule.
"In all, 22 of us (including 18 MLAs) met party chief and presented our view that we have majority in the State Assembly," Rane told reporters after meeting Sonia at her Parliament House Office.
The delegation would also meet President A P J Abdul Kalam to apprise him of their viewpoint, he said.
Senior Party leader Eduado Faleiro was also present during the meeting.
Rane declined to comment when asked if imposition of President's rule was a mistake despite the fact that he had won confidence vote in the House.
The Centre on March 4 had brought Goa under President's rule but kept the State Assembly in suspended animation shortly after Chief Minister Pratapsinh Rane won a controversial trust vote in the House, capping a month of high-voltage political drama in the State.
