On the first day of President's rule in Bihar, police yesterday (Mar 8, 2005) raided the Gaya Divisional Jail and recovered Rs 10,000 in cash from Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MLA and former Bihar Minister Surendra Prasad Yadav, besides arresting three criminals carrying rewards on their heads from separate places.
This was first operation in a jail after imposition of President's rule in Bihar on Mar 7.
Police raided Aguni village under Paraiya police station of Gaya district and arrested a hardcore Communist Party of India (CPI) (Maoist) extremist Bhola Sharma, who was carrying a reward of Rs 50,000 on his head.
Sharma was wanted by police in several cases of murder and dacoity, police sources said.
In Ara town of Bhojpur district, police arrested two notorious criminals Iqbal and Naiyer, both carrying a reward of Rs 20,000 on their heads, from Awarpur locality under town police station.
Sources in State police headquarters said that patrolling have been intensified across the State.
