New Delhi:
India will be happy if the democratic system is restored in Nepal and will like to help and not complicate the situation, Home Minister Shivraj Patil told Rajya Sabha today (Mar 9, 2005).
"We will be happy if democratic system is restored in Nepal... We are doing things in a manner that it does not complicate the situation but help in solving it," Patil said during Question Hour.
In reply to the main question raised by Tarini Kanta Roy, Patil said keeping in view that the situation in Nepal could have spill over effect in India, especially in States bordering Nepal, the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) deployed on Indo-Nepal Border has stepped up vigilance.
He said concerned State Governments have been asked to increase vigil and intensify patrolling along the entire Indo-Nepal border to prevent the ingress of Maoists and to check undesirable activities on Indian side of the border.
In reply to another query, the Minister said that there are reports that the Kamtapuri Liberation Organisation in North Bengal, which has its association with United Liberation front of Assam (ULFA), has been trying to forge links with Communist Party of Nepal (CPN-Maoist).
Patil, in reply to another question, said it was difficult to withdraw Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) from places where it is currently deployed and asked the West Bengal Government to make additional State police available for the purpose.
"We are trying to cooperate and consult each other," he said adding the State Government should understand difficulties of the Centre in redeploying the ITBP force.
