Bomb threat call at busy Wipro office in Bangalore
Wednesday, March 9 2005 12:33 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Bangalore: An anonymous call claiming that a bomb has been planted at an office of software major Wipro on the busy Mahatma Gandhi Road in Bangalore sent police into a tizzy today (Mar 9, 2005).

Police sent a dog and metal detector squad to the multi-storeyed building, which also houses "The Times of India" office, after the call was received at Wipro office, which is one of the several that the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) listed company has in the city.

Wipro's main campus is located on Sarjapur Road on the city outskirts.

"Checking is going on, including physical checking", a police official said. The squad is currently checking the entire building.

The telephone call this morning comes close on the heels of Delhi police uncovering militants' plot to attack software firms in Bangalore.

City police early this week recovered arms and ammunition including a stun gun and 149 live bullets in the cantonment railway station in Bangalore.
