'New Delhi willing to discuss all issues with Pak' Thursday, March 10 2005 19:19 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
New Delhi:
India will continue Confidence Building Measures (CBMs) with Pakistan and is willing to discuss all issues including Jammu and Kashmir but the engagement will be with "due caution", Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said today (March 10, 2005).
The Prime Minister also made it clear in Rajya Sabha that Pakistan has to honour its pledge to stop cross-border terrorism and dismantle terrorist infrastructure in the country.
"We are willing to discuss all issues in our relationship including Jammu and Kashmir," he said replying to the debate on the motion of thanks to the President's address to the joint sitting of Parliament.
"We will continue with our engagement but with due caution," Singh said stressing Government's commitment to improve relationships with all its immediate neighbours.
Voicing Government's resolve to step up closer people-to-people linkages as part of Confidence Building Measures, Singh said the Srinagar-Muzaffarabad bus service was one major step towards this end.
Singh, who touched upon a range of foreign policy issues, said India remained fully committed to non proliferation of nuclear weapons particularly in the region.
"We are closely monitoring the issue of nuclear proliferation in our neighbourhood and elsewhere," he said India's track record is "impeccable" in this regard, he said adding it remained committed to strengthening global efforts to eliminate weapons of mass destruction.
