Jamir misusing power under Prez rule: Parrikar
Thursday, March 10 2005 16:42 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Panaji: Reiterating its demand to recall Governor S C Jamir, BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) in Goa today (March 10, 2005) accused the former of "misusing powers under the President's Rule."

Former Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, who would leave for Delhi tomorrow (March 11, 2005) to meet BJP Chief L K Advani to press for the Governor's recall, said, "Jamir behaves as if he is sitting in a Congress House".

"I will also convey our feelings to President A P J Abdul Kalam, informing him of how the Governor is misusing his powers under the President's Rule", he told reporters in Panaji. Meanwhile, police have arrested two party workers who had taken part in the dharna staged outside Raj Bhavan gate on March 4 when Pratapsingh Rane had won the trust vote and President's Rule was imposed in the State.

While the two were later released on bail, the party feared that more arrests may follow.

"We have been informed that the Governor has asked police to arrest BJP workers and submit the compliance report every six hours," claimed Goa BJP Chief Rajendra Arlekar.

He said the party would be forced to take to the streets if the arrests were not stopped by this evening.

Parrikar, during his Delhi visit, would also press for the demand to dissolve Goa Assembly to hold elections in all the 40 constituencies rather than going for polls in six constituencies, five of which got vacant after the legislators resigned and in one case the legislator was disqualified by the then Speaker.

In case the Governor was not recalled, BJP would be forced to start agitation in the State, Parrikar added.
