Cong asks Modi to resign over phone tapping issue
Thursday, March 10 2005 14:05 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Gandhinagar: A day after Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLAs orchestrated their "grievances" against the style and functioning of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, the Opposition Congress today (Mar 10, 2005) once demanded resignation of Modi over phone-tapping issue.

"The disastrous plight of Gujarat BJP came to the fore yesterday (Mar 9, 2005) when MLAs and MPs openly complained about the phone tapping issue and Modi's 'autocratic' style of functioning before former Chief Minister Keshubhai Patel," leader of Opposition in State Assembly, Arjun Modhvadia told reporters in Gandhinagar. The Congress has also demanded an independent probe into the issue of phone tapping.

The leader of Opposition also said that an MP from Mehsana and senior BJP leader A K Patel had also recently written to party high-command in which he complained of Modi's dictatorial style of working.

Modhvadia also said that Patel had dashed a letter to Modi yesterday urging him to expose "corrupt elements" in his Cabinet.

Patel had written to Modi about some remarks he made at a function on Sunday (Mar 6, 2005) in Vijapur where he had reportedly said that he was being opposed by "those who indulge in corruption".

In his letter, A K Patel asked Modi to name all those indulging in corruption including MPs, MLAs and bureaucrats.

To a question if the Gujarat Congress was ready to welcome into the party the disgruntled BJP MLAs, Modhvadia said that the Congress party's door are open to anybody who follows its ideology.

The anti-Modi MLAs had yesterday openly grouped at Keshubhai's residence at Gandhinagar and expressed their 'grievances' to the former CM.

Keshubhai along with other dissatisfied BJP MLAs have been voicing displeasure against Modi for over past one year.
