Vijayawada:
In view of the recent tsunami disaster that struck the country, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) in coordination with other departments would take up study about the tsunami and changes in the seabed, ISRO chairman and department of space secretary, G Madhavan Nair, said in Vijayawada.
"Sensors would be planted at the seabed to study the data of sea waves and frequent changes in the sea bed, which had caused Tsunami. The sensors will have connections with the satellites which in turn would give an idea in the changes of waves in the ocean," said Nair, who was at Tenali in Guntur district yesterday (Mar 9, 2005) to receive the 13th Dr Y Nayudamma memorial award.
He said besides ISRO, Geological Survey of India, Oceanography and Meteorological Departments would be involved in the study.
Appreciating the use of Indian National Satellite (INSAT) system in different fields, Nair said that besides telecommunications, business communication, broadcasting and meteorological services, several initiatives were being taken to expand the application of INSAT to newer areas like tele-medicine and tele-education.
