J'khand House adjourned till Mar 15 amidst uproar

Ranchi: The Jharkhand Assembly was today (Mar 11, 2005) adjourned till March 15 without taking up the business of confidence vote.

Amidst uproar in the House over the Supreme Court directive that the trial of strength should be held today, Pro-tem Speaker Pradeep Kumar Balmuchu ruled that nowhere in India the business of vote of confidence conducted by a Pro-tem Speaker.

Jharkhand - Party Position

Supporting the observations made by Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee, who had suggested that a Presidential reference may be made to the Supreme Court for its opinion, Balmuchu said the President should seek the apex court's opinion on the course to be taken by the Assembly.

As the furore continued, the Pro-tem Speaker adjourned the House till Tuesday.
