Friday, March 11 2005 10:21 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Meerut (UP) : The Special Operation Group of UP Police has arrested a resident of Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir from the cantonment area in Meerit for spying for Pakistan, a senior police official said last night (Mar 10, 2005).

Syed Khalid Hussain, 28, had opened an account in a bank in the cantonment area under the fictitious name of Ravi Kumar and used to send information about senior Army officers and vital Army installations to Pakistan through e-mail, Senior Superintendent of Police Anju Gupta told reporters in Meerut.

Hussain had visited Pakistan in 2000 and after developing relations with the ISI, stayed there for three and a half years.

A case has been registered under the Official Secrets Act and an Army Intelligence officer is investigating, Gupta added.
