Congress has belittled historic tradition: Advani
Saturday, March 12 2005 20:08 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Raipur: Sharply reacting to the re-enactment of the 'Dandi Yatra', BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) president L K Advani today (March 12, 2005) said it is a very wrong tradition established by the Congress, which has belittled such a great historic event.

"The celebration is good but I fail to understand why it is confined to only one party and even the Gujarat Government was not involved in that," Advani said while speaking with reporters during a brief stop over at the city airport while on way to Mangalore from Ranchi.

"When it is so important an event why the Prime Minister was not involved and why did the Congress adopt a political approach," he asked.

"Also I fail to understand what message the Congress wants to give on this issue by giving importance to party president while ignoring the Prime Minister," the BJP leader said.

Congress president Sonia Gandhi today flagged-off at Ahmedabad the 'Dandi March', re-enactment of the historic march undertaken by the Father of the Nation on this day 75 years ago to protest the Salt Tax imposed by the British Raj.
