Naxals attack police station, 6 killed in Guntur Saturday, March 12 2005 09:30 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Six people were killed including three police personnel were killed when Communist Party of India (CPI Maoists) attacked Guntur town police station, police said in Hyderabad.
Three policemen have been killed in the attack, Guntur District Superintendent of Police said over the phone, adding that further details are awaited.
About 20 armed naxalites lobbed hand greandes and then opened fire on the police personnel, they said.
Circle inspector C Prasad ran for safety but the naxalites chased him and shot him dead, police said adding constables Ram Mohan Rao, Venkateshwarulu and lady constable Yohan were among those killed in the attack.
One home guard and an accused person lodged in the police station were also killed in the attack, police added.
The naxalites, however, escaped from the spot.
Senior police officials have rushed to the site and alert have been sounded in the district following the incident, police said.
