NDA to hold rallies to pressurise anti-RJD parties
Sunday, March 13 2005 14:27 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Patna: With an objective to put pressure on LJP (Lok Janshakti Party) chief Ramvilas Paswan to give up his "stubbornness" and come with NDA (National Democratic Alliance) for formation of an anti-RJD (Rashtriya Janata Dal) Government in Bihar, the NDA today (Mar 13, 2005) planned to hold rallies across the State from April to make people aware of the political situation and the role of parties who won seats opposing Laloo Prasad's party.

"It was decided in the meeting to go to the peoples' court and through rallies make people aware of the political situation and the 'roadblocks,' in the formation of an anti-RJD Government in Bihar," senior JDU (Janata Dal United) leader Nitish Kumar told reporters. The venue and dates of the rallies would be finalised soon, he said.

Spotlight: Elections 2005

The meeting held at the residence of Kumar in Patna was attended among others by JDU MPs - Prabhunath Singh and Lallan Singh, State party president Vijendra Yadav and from BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) side its vice-president Sushil Kumar Modi, State NDA convenor Nand Kishore Yadav and State president Gopal Narayan Singh were present.

"We will bare the facts before the people, how the parties who have got votes on anti-RJD plank acted after declaration of Assembly polls results," he said apparently referring to Paswan.

Separate functions would be organised in all the 55 Assembly constituencies won by the JDU candidates to thank people for reposing faith in the party, he said.

The JDU leader said he has already put his proposal to Paswan that if he could muster the support of 67 MLAs, JDU was open to extend support of its 55 MLAs, and if this was not possible Paswan should heed us and come with the NDA to form Government to respect "anti-RJD" mandate.

Asked about any possibility of him talking to Paswan in the near future to end the political logjam in Bihar, Kumar said he has already made his position clear (either LJP chief bring 67 MLAs and take support of 55 JDU MLAs or heed the NDA and now its turn of Paswan to respond to it and make "grounds" to move forward.

"We can make adjustments among ourselves through common minimum programme and selection of a Chief Ministerial candidate would also be not a big problem...It all depends on Paswan whether he is serious about ending the RJD rule or not," he said.

The JDU leader said he was against continuation of President's rule as well holding polls again, "solution has to be found from the problem (fractured mandate) itself to end the deadlock. People are looking at all the parties who went to the polls to end the RJD regime. Soon we join hands better it will be." Kumar made it clear that the JDU was "flexible" to the situation but putting impossible conditions would not help solution to the problem.

BJP has already said it was also "flexible" for formation of an "anti-RJD" Government in Bihar.

Without naming Paswan, Kumar gave a piece of advice to the LJP president, "pride led to the fall of RJD supremo Laloo Prasad. Others should learn lessons from it."
