Govt ready for discussion on Nepal developments Monday, March 14 2005 15:34 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
New Delhi:
Conceding to the Opposition demand, Government today (March 14, 2005) informed Lok Sabha that it was ready for a discussion on recent developments in Nepal.
With several members wishing to raise various aspects of the evolving situation in Nepal, Leader of the House Pranab Mukherjee said Government is ready for a discussion on it.
Yogi Adityanath, BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party), warned that Pakistan's decision to supply arms to Nepal and China's strong interests in that Country would have adverse fallout for India.
Ramjilal Suman, SP, and Rupchand Pal, CPM (Communist Party of India Marxist), had also given notices to speak on the situation in Nepal.
Speaker Somnath Chatterjee noted that Government had made its position clear in the statement tabled in Lok Sabha last week.
India had termed as "disturbing" the prevailing situation in Nepal and said it was in touch with other countries to exchange views to evolve a coordinated response of the international community to the developments in the Himalayan Kingdom.
New Delhi said it was concerned that a further deterioration of the situation in Nepal would result in spillover effects across the open border, particularly in neighbouring States.
