Jammu-Srinagar highway re-opens after two days Tuesday, March 15 2005 12:19 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Jammu:
Over 900 vehicles were today (Mar 15, 2005) allowed to move towards their destinations as the 300 km-long Jammu-Srinagar national highway opened for traffic after two days of closure due to landslides at the Ramban-Banihal stretch of the arterial road, official sources said in Jammu.
The highway, the only surface link between the Kashmir valley and rest of the country, had to be closed on Sunday (Mar 13, 2005) due to landslides at Kila Morh in Ramban-Banihal stretch.
So far, over 900 out of 3,000 stranded vehicles were allowed to move towards their respective destinations of Jammu and Srinagar, they said.
Efforts were being made by authorities to clear the highway of the stranded vehicles, as there would be no permission to allow fresh vehicles from Srinagar and Jammu today, the sources said.
