Lok Sabha okays presidential proclamation on Goa
Friday, March 18 2005 21:51 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

New Delhi: The Lok Sabha on Friday (March 18, 2005) approved the residential proclamation clamping Central rule in Goa with the Government remaining non-committal on the dissolution of the Assembly and holding immediate elections there.

We will take the appropriate decision when the occasion arises. We are trying to be as correct as possible," Home Minister Shivraj Patil said, replying to a debate on the statutory resolution on the proclamation issued on March 4 this year.

Side-stepping Opposition demand for dissolution of Goa Assembly and holding of fresh elections, Patil said some views have been expressed by the Opposition as also by treasury benches.

He said he would keep all the suggestions in his mind and a decision would be taken by the Union Cabinet.

The House earlier debated the Goa budget for 2005-06 and gave its nod to vote-on-account for five months from March 31.

Goa was brought under President's rule on March 4 hours after the Congress-led Pratapsinh Rane Government won the vote of confidence in the Assembly as the Centre felt that political developments in the State had raised doubts whether any coalition could a provide a stable administration.
