Mother commits suicide to gift eyes to blind sons
Saturday, March 19 2005 21:53 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Chennai: To fulfill her wish of providing eyesight to her two blind sons, a 37-year-old woman ended her life after registering with an eye bank, with instructions that her eyes be transplanted after her death.

The woman, Tamilselvi was dejected, as her two sons were blind and were studying in a visually impaired school in the city. As her efforts to get eye donors for them proved futile, she decided to donate her eyes to them and registered with an eye bank in Chennai.

She was found hanging at her residence in suburban Kodungaiyur in North Madras yesterday. Eye bank authorities, who were informed about her death, removed her eyes to fulfill her wish.

On information, police rushed to the spot and recovered the body, which was later sent for post-mortem.
