Four naxals, including a district secretary of Communist Party of India (CPI) Maoist group, were killed in an encounter with police in Warangal district of Andhra Pradesh today (Mar 19, 2005), police said.
The senior ultra, Yadanna (35), wanted in 70 cases, including 10 murders and attack on at least five police stations, had earlier escaped during seven encounters, police added.
About 20 naxals were holding a meeting at the village and when the police combing party reached the spot in Andugulavedi village, 65 km from Warangal, at 6:15 hrs (IST), the ultras opened fire, district Superintendent Stefen Ravindra told reporters in Warangal.
In the ensuing exchange of fire, the four were killed, while the rest fled from the spot, he added.
Police have also seized a AK-47 rifle, six other weapons, three wireless sets, 11 kit bags and one camera flash, he said.
