Pondicherry: The proposed changes to Assembly constituencies under the ongoing delimitation exercise would be applicable for the elections due next year in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Assam, West Bengal and the Union Territory of Pondicherry, Election Commissioner B B Tandon said today (March 20, 2005).

The work on the delimitation of constituencies had been taken up on a priority basis in the five States, as they would have the Assembly elections next year, Tandon, who is also a member of the Delimitation Commission, told reporters in Pondicherry.

He was speaking at the end of a four-and-half hour-long public hearing of the Delimitation Commission in which representatives of different political parties, voluntary organisations and public opinion leaders presented their views on the modalities for the proposed delimitation.
