Fresh clashes between Lanka Tigers and Karuna
Monday, March 21 2005 12:39 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Colombo: In a fresh outbreak of internecine clashes, main Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) today (Mar 21, 2005) attacked a base of the breakaway leader Karuna in eastern Sri Lanka, officials said.

While two LTTE cadres were killed, at least three of the faction led by V Muralitharan, better known as Karuna were wounded in the attack at Welikandat, officials said quoting unconfirmed reports.

Spotlight: Lanka peace process

The attack came a day after the privately-run 'Sunday Leader' newspaper reported that the Karuna faction was operating a base inside Sri Lankan military controlled area.

Karuna split with the Tiger leadership in March last year (2004) and since then the main LTTE has been trying to establish its authority in the east of the Island and have accused the rebel of colluding with the Lankan Army.
