Bollywood star Vivek Oberoi's project home for the tsunami victims in Pattinacheri village in Karaikal was expected to be completed before October this year, his guru Rishikesh Swami Siddhanda Saraswathi said.
Performing the bhoomi pooja for the project in Pattinacheri, the village adopted by Oberoi, on Tuesday (March 22, 2005), he praised Pondicherry Lt Governor M M Lakhera, for extending all possible help for the project
Explaining his plans for the project, Oberoi sought the cooperation of officials and people to complete the project on time.
"I assure you this will be a model town in the true sense in India," he said, amidst thunderous applause.
He appealed to the people to inform him about the shortcomings in the project which is coming up in Karaikal, an enclave of Pondicherry.
Laying the foundation stone, Lakhera lauded Oberoi's gesture. Praising his sincere wish to help the tsunami victims, Lakhera said the people of Pattinacheri were fortunate.
The project envisages construction of 450 houses, separate schools for boys and girls, health centres, recreation centres, computer training institutes and playgrounds.
