Veer Zaara, Swades win honours at Zee Cine Awards

London: Cross-border love story 'Veer Zaara' and patriotic saga 'Swades' took the honours at a star-studded Zee Cine Awards 2005 function in London, winning five awards each.

Produced by Yash Raj Films, 'Veer Zaara', the love story of an Indian man and a Pakistani girl won the best film award besides laurels for Shah Rukh Khan (best actor) and director Yash Chopra who took home the 'Yash Johar Producer of the Year award' and Best Director Award for the blockbuster at a glittering ceremony last night (Mar 26, 2005).

Shah Rukh Khan, who stole the hearts of the audience with his stage performance, also received a diamond-studded ring along with his trophy.

Divya Dutta won the award for Best Performance in a supporting role (female) for 'Veer Zaara', notching the fifth award for the film.

At the function, Chopra announced that though he would continue to direct films, he would henceforth not contest for any awards and leave the field open to other directors.

Ashutosh Gowariker bagged the Best Director (critics) award for 'Swades', which also won in Best Story (Ashutosh Gowariker-M G Sathya), Best Lyrics (Javed Akhtar), Best Debut performance (Gayatri Joshi) and Best Recording (Hitendra Ghosh) categories.

Actress Rani Mukherjee won the Best Actress Award for her role in 'Hum Tum' and also got a diamond necklace from Sridevi and Shatrughan Sinha.
