Met Department does not rule out fresh tsunami

New Delhi: The Indian Met Department tonight (Mar 28, 2005) did not rule out the possibility of a tsunami striking the country's coastal areas following a massive earthquake hitting Northern Sumatra Island of Indonesia, Union Science and Technology Minister Kapil Sibal said.

"We have spoken to all Met centres to check whether the quake was felt in the country," said Sibal.

Spotlight: Tidal Waves hit South Asia

The Emergency Control Room in the Union Home Ministry was tonight activated following the earthquake measuring 8.2 on the Richter scale.
