Professor Jaspal Singh Kooner, Professor of Clinical Cardiology at National Heart Lung Institute, Imperial College London and Consultant Cardiologist Ealing and Hammersmith Hospitals has been chosen as the 'Overall Hospital Doctor of the year' in the UK at the prestigious Hospital Doctor Awards.
The Hospital Doctor Awards celebrate achievements, innovation, and clinical excellence in the medical profession.
Dr Hutton (Consultant Cardiologist) and Judge commented: "Professor Kooner and his team now provide not only an incredible clinical service, but also an eminent international research department. And what he has done for the community is just commendable. Professor Kooner's achievements are unprecedented in UK Cardiology, and confirm his dynamism, vision, and leadership qualities."
According to the judging panel: Professor Kooner has forged exceptional links with primary care professional to address the health problems of the community his department serves. And he has developed outstanding research interests, which form his team's endeavour.
The Judges felt that his team has been in the vanguard of developing innovative services in cardiology for the past ten years, and he personally has provided an exemplary role model.
As well as being chosen overall winner, Professor Jaspal S Kooner and his team were winners in the 'UK Cardiology Team of the year' category sponsored by Solvay.
Prof Kooner said, "I am absolutely thrilled for our team. National recognition of our achievements by our peers is very special. We have worked tirelessly to establish a first class clinical service for our patients and will continue to build on these strengths to fight heart disease in the community."
