Earthquake measuring 5.1 jolts the Nicobar Islands Wednesday, March 30 2005 10:05 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

A strong earthquake yesterday (Mar 29, 2005) rocked the Nicobar Islands, less than a day after a giant quake in Northwest Indonesia killed at least 430 people and triggered Tsunami warnings across the Indian Ocean.
The quake, measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale, was recorded at 18:26 hrs (IST), the Met department said.
It was epicentred at 6.5 degree North latitude and 93.4 degree East latitude in Great Nicobar Islands. No damage or casualty caused by the quake was immediately reported.
At least 430 to 1000 people were killed in Nias Island off Northwest Indonesia by a massive earthquake measuring 8.7 on the Richter scale on Monday night (Mar 28, 2005).
The epicentre of the quake was just 320 kilometres from that of the December 26 quake, which sent giant waves crashing into 12 nations, killing over 273,000 people.
