Benazir Bhutto, Zardari to arrive in India today Friday, April 1 2005 08:53 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Islamabad:
Former Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto will arrive in India today (April 1, 2005) on a two-day private visit along with husband Asif Ali Zardari, a spokesman of her party said in Islamabad yesterday (Mar 31, 2005).
Both Bhutto and Zardari would arrive in India today on a private visit to offer prayers at Ajmer Sharif dargah in Rajasthan, a spokesman of Bhutto's Pakistan People's Party (PPP) said in Islamabad.
The two leaders will be arriving from Dubai where Bhutto stays in self-exile, fearing arrest at home and go straight to Jaipur from where they will go by road to Ajmer Sharif.
"It is purely a private visit. We have no political agenda to go with it," Zardari told local TV networks from Dubai.
"We wanted to offer prayers for the unity and well-being of our country," said Zardari, who had been released after eight years in Pakistani prisons.
PPP spokesman Faratullah Babar said in Islamabad that the two leaders would return to Dubai straight from Jaipur and have no plans to touch down at New Delhi or meet Indian leaders.
This is going to be Bhutto's second trip to the country since her self-imposed exile eight years ago.
The couple will offer "thanksgiving" prayers at the dargah for release of the latter from jail November 2004.
Bhutto undertook a visit to India last year to attend a conference in New Delhi during which she met top leaders.
